What Happens When You Separate from Your Emotional Body

Emotions are an incredibly complex thing for all of us to process.

You need to recognize and inspect them, but it’s crucial to not get lost in them and fall into hopelessness, anxiety, or fear. That’s what happened to our client, Xinia.

Xinia was entrenched in her emotional existence. She was lost in the negative side of life, as if a cloud of despair had formed above her and stayed there. An in-depth discussion with her revealed that she was sort of dying on the inside.

Instead of exploring her emotions with curiosity, Xinia got so consumed by them, it seemed like she became the emotion itself. As a result, she would go into a deep, dark depression for several days. From there, she would become completely disconnected from her purpose, family, and friends. She tried many different medications, but none of them were effective in stopping the storm clouds from forming in her head.

We first needed to help Xinia stop getting lost in her emotions and realize the emotions she was feeling were just messages, not the entire existence of her soul.

To help her gain a different perspective, we asked her to visualize herself as the eye of a hurricane. She could allow as many emotions to exist around her as she wanted, but she needed to stay in the eye, and watch the emotions swirl around her.

That exercise enabled Xinia to become centered and focused as an observer of the emotions, but never get swept away with them. From that visualization, Xinia learned how to leverage her emotions more effectively to improve her quality of life.

When an emotion surfaced, she would catch it before it could pull her out of the eye of the hurricane and into the swirling winds on the outside. By staying aware of her emotions, she was equipped with the tools to avoid depression and crisis mode.

After Xinia took control over her emotional well-being, she was able to stop taking the medications that were numbing her from doing things with her friends and family.

This also allowed her to express herself more openly with people, develop closer relationships with everyone around her, and become a more fulfilled person.

How to Separate from Your Emotional Body

Our client Xinia is not an atypical example of the relationship most of us have with our emotions. You may not realize that emotions are only a small part of you because at no point in your life did anyone teach you what to do with your feelings.

You must now learn how to properly separate from your emotional body.

The first step in doing that is to acknowledge sadness and other challenging emotions when they come over you. Ask, “Why am I feeling so sad right now?” The goal is to discover the source of your emotions, wherever they might come from.

Now, understand that your mindset is a dormant internal program without emotions to energize it. Manifestations materialize when emotions are input into the program. The two work together to create your reality, but they are definitely separate entities.

It’s an understanding of that separation that will allow you to transform your challenging emotions. Then the question becomes, what do you do with your positive emotions?

How to Handle Positive Emotions

When you experience a positive emotion filling your mindset, grab it and hold on to it. Return to your safe place in the eye of the hurricane and place that positive energy into the swirling hurricane around you. Observe it, enjoy it, and be willing and able to return to the eye to view it in all its glory, again and again.

The complexity of emotions extends deep into the internal wiring of our mindset. In a way, we’ve all been programmed to be addicted to emotions.

Occasionally in life, everything feels in alignment. You might feel on top of the world after celebrating a big win in your personal life or career. For some strange reason, however, you may still crave a reason to feel sad. It’s a bizarre but real aspect of human nature to seek the full spectrum of emotions we’re all capable of experiencing.

You have the tools now to break away from that pattern, however.

You can arrive at a natural state of blissfulness, gratitude, and joy where you resist the innate tendency to say something like “Yes, that was good, but…” There’s always a but unless you learn to rewire that internal programming to eliminate it.

Activate Your New Beliefs

Allowing your emotions to become your master is a limiter that must be overcome. This is akin to thinking, “I’m a sad person. I’m depressed,” instead of thinking, “I feel some sadness for now.” Your sadness is not who you are. It is an emotion to observe.

Instead of thinking something like the above, think this instead:

I use my emotions as energy to create the life of my dreams.

Now, keep that belief in mind as we talk through these two exercises.

Get into a comfortable sitting position and connect with your intention. Relax your core and place your fingers between your sternum and navel. This is where so many of your emotions crystalize. Massage this area with your fingers for a few seconds.

Inhale gently. As you exhale, let your fingers move inward while you move your upper body forward. Inhale while moving your upper body back to an upright sitting position.

As you exhale again, let your fingers move inward while you move your upper body forward, and gently massage the area to release the emotions that are stuck.

Repeat this process several times. When you’re finished, here’s another exercise.

Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes. Ask yourself, “What am I feeling right now?”

Allow yourself to notice all the positive and negative feelings that come to the forefront of your mindset. Inhale through the emotion you’ve identified as negative.

Detach yourself from those challenging emotions by exhaling thoroughly.

Keep Observing Your Emotions

Maintain awareness of your emotions, but practice detaching from them during the day.

If you feel sad, remember you are not a sad person; you are just a person who is feeling some sadness at the moment. Then ask yourself, “What is the cause of this sadness?”

Probe deeply into the answer of that question. When you’re satisfied that you’ve answered it to the best of your knowledge, ask a follow-up question:

“How would I like to feel instead?”

Throughout the day, work at maintaining that state of being.
